Vectis Radio Newbie
It has been a dream of mine to present a radio show, and this week I got the opportunity to co-host with the talented Martyn Bonner and Louise Gambling at Vectis Radio. They made me feel so welcome and I really enjoyed their relaxed banter and friendly chats. The show was full of interesting facts and funny anecdotes and we had guests! I was thrown in the deep end and asked to interview Lily & Finn from Platform One. It was an amazing experience for my first time hosting and I have to thank them for putting me at ease.
Founded and managed by Ian Mac since 2010, Vectis is a community station for the Isle of Wight, broadcasting on 104.6FM and digitally. Many awards have been won over the years, the most recent being ARIAS Best Community Radio Station Award 2023. They have a wide range of music to reflect the range of listener, and cover local events and news, as well as hosting their own community awards ceremony every year.
I was lucky enough to be asked to interview the lovely ladies Lily and Finn from Peachy Keen band, who are graduating students at Platform One. Platform One is a boutique college on the Isle of Wight specialising in high quality education in the creative industries. We talked about their charity event coming up this weekend called Arts Aid, to raise funds for Wessex Cancer Trust. If you would like to hear the interview, it is available as a podcast on the Vectis radio website.
The event is this Friday 17 May, 7pm at GG's Riding Centre in Newport. There are several bands performing live sets, with a catwalk show featuring work by students of the new Sustainable Fashion course which Platform One has just introduced to the curriculum. Tickets are £10 or for a VIP experience it's £35 plus booking fee. Not forgetting the raffle which includes a very generous gift from John Giddings of VIP tickets to Isle of Wight Festival. Tickets are also available from the Wessex Cancer Trust in Newport.
Wessex Cancer Trust support people and families dealing with Cancer. One of my Burlesque dancers, Kitten Divine, recently did a sponsored walk for the charity and raised over 600 pounds! Well done Kitten Divine! The support that the charity gave during a very difficult time has resulted in her making friends for life, who have even made up t-shirts in her Burlesque name for her next show! If you would like to donate to her fundraiser, you can here.
After the interview I was keen to hear Peachy Keen's music, so I headed to Spotify and played their latest release, Blue. It is genuinely lovely, it is exactly as they described; chilled and modern with soothing vocals. I liked it so much I have added it to my favourites and to my Morcheeba playlist!
I will be making more appearances on Vectis radio in future, so if you would like a local event or piece of news shared, please do let me know, I will be happy to help. In the meantime, I will leave you with Peachy Keen's new release, Blue, below.
